Dead wooding is one of those jobs that looks simple from the ground and turns into a full day's work the moment you start planning it properly. Removing dead, dying and hanging limbs from a mature tree means getting a climber or an operator into the outer canopy — repeatedly, safely, and often over a pool, a patio, a driveway or a neighbour's fence.

  • There's no reliance on the integrity of dead or decayed timber

  • The platform provides a stable cutting position, which produces cleaner cuts

  • Descent in an emergency is immediate, not a rope-based retrieval

  • Drop zones are easier to manage and control from a fixed platform position

For commercial clients, facility managers and body corporates, that also translates into a cleaner safety case. Documented plant, a ticketed operator, and a controlled work zone are far easier to sign off on than rope access over a public thoroughfare.

Cleaner cuts mean a healthier tree

There's an arboricultural argument here too, not just a logistics one.

Proper dead wooding means cutting back to the branch collar without damaging it, so the tree can compartmentalise the wound and seal it over. Making that cut accurately requires a stable body position and a clear view of the collar.

A climber working at the end of a lateral on a rope, in an awkward position, is fighting for that angle. An operator in a platform positioned deliberately at the cut has it. Better positioning produces better cuts, and better cuts produce better long-term tree health — which is exactly what your client is paying for.
